For this guide, I wanted to show everyone how to mute WhatsApp discussions on iPhone and Android devices in a few simple steps.
Hello everyone and welcome to my blog. I am Frankie Caruso, an expert in instant messaging applications and a passionate hacker.
Today’s guide explains how to manage notifications in WhatsApp. Concretely, I want to talk about muffling and debunking individual and group conversations by means of service. We’ll answer some of the most frequently asked questions on the subject, including what happens if you mute WhatsApp? Or how do I know I’m muffled?
I want to be completely honest with you. Disabling WhatsApp calls is very simple and requires no special knowledge. This can be done in seconds, regardless of the device used.
Well, let’s see.
There are many reasons why you may want to mute your WhatsApp call or group chat. Usually he’s just a boring friend who has nothing better to do than chat on his phone and send messages all day long. Or a group where you can’t participate in the ongoing conversation and constantly send snapshots, notes, invitations and other messages.
If those are your reasons, I sympathize. I hate getting messages all the time, especially stupid messages.
In other cases, mute WhatsApp chats can be a good way to hide something from another person.
Let me explain. Maybe one of your contacts is a special friend and you don’t want messages about these adventures sent to your phone when you are with your partner.
In that case, take a look at the guide I’ve created to help you avoid getting caught cheating on WhatsApp.
Let’s go off your phone without further explanation and show you how to mute your calls with WhatsApp.
Mute and unmute WhatsApp cats on iPhone
Let’s start by explaining the iPhone.
I want to show you how you can sound a cat, a group, and finally the two if you change your mind.
Let’s get started.
Mute WhatsApp discussions on iPhone
If you are using the iPhone and only want to disable a specific contact, follow these steps.
- Open WhatsApp and the specific cat you want to mute.
- Click on the name of the contact person under the profile picture.
- Once you’ve done that, you’re on the contact page, and you can choose to turn it off there.
- You can choose to deactivate their notifications during certain periods, starting with 8 hours, 1 week or always.
Isn’t it as simple as I said?
Some information that may be of interest to you: Reminder: Muting the chat will only stop notifications of conversations. You can always view the entire conversation by fully opening the application.
If you really can’t stand this contact anymore and don’t want to be in your active WhatsApp discussion list, you can always archive the conversation after you’ve silenced it. If you are not familiar with this process, I have prepared a guide to archiving chats on WhatsApp.
Disabling a group call on WhatsApp on iPhone
As mentioned above, you can also disable an entire group. Groups often become very annoying when it comes to reports on your phone.
Here is an easy way to solve this problem.
- Open WhatsApp.
- Open the group call you want to mute and then touch the name of the group.
- Press Mute.
- Select the period in which the group should be muted, e.g. B. 8 hours, 1 week or always.
Congratulations, you now receive well under 1,000 reports per hour.
As with individual cats, the mutation of a group is not erased. This operation only disables the messages. When you open WhatsApp, you will find this group in your active discussion list.
Turning off WhatsApp Cats on iPhone
Once you turn off WhatsApp chat, there is no way to undo it. You can always go back, change your mind and reactivate notifications at your own discretion.
I will show you three simple steps that work in the same way for individual and group cats.
- Open WhatsApp.
- Open the chat or the group you want to disable and click on the name.
- Tap Off, and then tap Off in the pop-up box.
From that moment on, the chat will resume sending text messages when a new message arrives.
There is no time limit for mute or soft speech. I suggest you do that, but if a contact sends you a lot of messages, you can block them if you don’t want to receive them anymore. If you don’t know how to do this, or if you just want to know more, you can take a look at the guide I’ve created on how to block a WhatsApp contact.
Mute and reactivate WhatsApp chat on Android
Let’s go to the androids!
As before, I’d like to show you how to turn off notifications for a WhatsApp chat or group, and finally how to turn them off if you change your mind.
Mute WhatsApp discussions on Android
A conversation on WhatsApp with an Android device is as easy as with an iPhone, which I just explained.
Once you have unpacked your smartphone and are ready to use, follow the steps below.
- Open WhatsApp and tap the chat you want to mute.
- Select and touch the three vertical points in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Select Mute.
- Select the length of time you want to turn this contact off and call. You can choose between 8 hours, a week or anytime. You will be asked to confirm your choice.
Depending on the Android phone you are using and the specific brand, the information on the tabs and available options may vary slightly. For example, the deactivation can be specified as a deactivation message. To complete this tutorial, I used a Samsung Galaxy S20 that has been updated with the Android 10 operating system.
Remember that cushioning does not remove or block the cat. It’ll just stop receiving notifications. When you open the discussion list in WhatsApp, you can easily find it among your active calls.
Quiet group discussions on WhatsApp on Android
Just like mute a single call, mute a group with your Android phone on WhatsApp is easy. The steps are in fact very similar, but small differences should be pointed out.
That’s what you have to do.
- Open WhatsApp.
- Open the group you want to mute and click on the name that appears.
- Click on the options that are muted or highlighted in the same way.
- Select the period for which you want to disable these messages (8 hours, a week or always) and press OK to confirm.
Now that you have, I am pleased to announce that you no longer have to deal with the millions of reports from the WhatsApp groups you are connected to. The battery in your phone will also thank you!
Turning off WhatsApp cats on Android
The same goes for the iPhone, you can also mute the chat on WhatsApp as you like on Android. You can always go back and disconnect after temporarily disabling notifications.
I’ll show you how it’s done.
- Open WhatsApp.
- Open the subject or group you have muted.
- Click on the name of the contact or group – or, if you prefer, on the three vertical dots in the top right corner.
- Press Mute and then Unmute.
If you want to disable WhatsApp chat or groups again, this option is always available. There is no maximum number of times you can mute or undo a particular call.
What happens when you mute a contact?
It’s important to know what happens when you dry-clean WhatsApp, so I’ll show you.
To disable notifications in a WhatsApp chat (or group):
- the contact can still send you normal messages.
- you will always see your status and latest access data.
- they can still see your profile picture.
What happens is that you no longer receive signals such as sounds and vibrations from the person sending you the message.
It will also see that that person’s messages are only visible to you when you open the application. This mute contact or group has a crossed out speaker symbol to indicate that it is mute.
It’s really not a solution that you have to spend a lot of time in a mess. You’re the only person who knows you interrupted the conversation. If you manage to keep quiet and let everyone know they’re muffled, everything will be fine. Otherwise, you have some explaining to do. Of course I know, but I’m very good at keeping secrets.
When you meet your contact, increase your phone’s privacy with applications like WhatsApp. In some situations, this feature may not be sufficient to meet your needs. Most take extra precautions to better protect their device and personal information with email applications.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know I am in silent mode on WhatsApp?
Unfortunately, there’s no real way to know if someone muffled you without telling you directly.
What is the difference between blocking and muting on WhatsApp?
After all, the goal can be the same: to prevent someone becoming annoying. There are some differences between blocking and blocking a contact on WhatsApp. Deactivation only disables notifications, while blocking disrupts all forms of communication between the two parties. The blocked contact cannot send you messages, see your status or profile picture. If you want to block a contact, but don’t feel comfortable doing so, please take a moment to read a manual on blocking (and unblocking) WhatsApp contacts.
It didn’t take long before we arrived at the end of this guide, and we hope that the information it contains will help you on your journey. I’m sure you now know very well how to mute the chat on WhatsApp with just a few clicks.
Before I say goodbye, let me briefly summarise what I said in the guide to make sure you didn’t miss anything.
In the first part, I explained in detail how to mute individual and group calls with the iPhone and Android. I also took the time to explain how you can reverse this process if you want to change your mind.
And in the second part, I’ll tell you what happens when someone is muted on WhatsApp.
I then took the time to answer some of the most frequently asked questions on the subject, so you don’t have to worry.
Now we’re really done. If you have any doubts, questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via the comments field below this message. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
Let’s hug him,
PS – As I said before, it’s not often enough to silence someone on WhatsApp. If you need more drastic measures, I suggest you see how you can block someone on WhatsApp.
